Waking up to Spring 2.0

It is spring but this is the view shows there is still some snow of the ground. Now is the time of year we are supposed to spring ahead with renewed energy.

Spring is the time of the Wood Element corresponding to the liver and gallbladder, plans, vision, creativity and decision making. Wood controls the tendons, opens to the eyes and houses anger, courage, determination and the spirit of the Hun.

If balanced, we are determined, have a clear vision, feel supple, resilient and able to move like a tree when the winds of change blow. If unbalanced, we may lose sight of our goals, lack motivation, feel stuck, irritable, achy and find ourselves fighting obstacles.

Therefore it is important to continue to dress warmly and protect ourselves from wind and drafts. Hold off on salads, cool drinks and continue to nourish our bodies with immune boosting herbs and the slower cooked warming foods.

Mental and emotional health is also key. Do some spring-cleaning in the holistic sense. Start by getting rid of the clutter in the closets and under the bed and then move to a deeper “de-cluttering” by:

  • Practicing healthy eating to clear out waste and toxins

  • Walking in nature to clean our lungs and feel grounded

  • Writing “To-Do” lists to finish loose ends and mental chatter

  • Examining obsessions or behaviors indicating emotional blockages

  • Adopting acceptance, not judgment to stop psychological drama

  • Seeking uplifting relationships to clear spiritual pathways

  • Choosing a grateful outlook for easier connection to our higher power

Ultimately this is the time to tap into those desires and passions that have been incubating as seeds in our mind during the winter hibernation. It is a time of anticipation, optimism and hope. Soon we can burst forth like a new sprout, with shored-up plans and the elevated expectations to make those dreams come true.
